Mosque Altar (Mihrab)

MOSQUE ALTAR (MIHRAB)

Brief History

Mihrab is the name given to the hollow and recessed place in the middle of the wall in the direction of the qibla, where the imam (religion man) stands in front of the congregation (community) while leading the prayer. The mihrab you are examining is part of the inner wall of the mosque. The model was made separately for you to examine. Above the domed recess, you can usually touch the rectangular areas where verses are written. Above this section, the upper part of the mihrab is decorated with stone carvings.
